Charity fairs allow a better quality of life

SIMON TIMOTHY DEHAL Verulam

CHILD and family welfare societies play a pivotal and meaningful role in caring for vulnerable children, primarily orphans, the destitute, the abused and those in foster care.

While the government is to be lauded for providing some financial contribution to such benevolent organisations, there is always a shortfall due to the institutions’ enormous monetary needs with mounting costs that exceed income.

Thus the institutions host annual charity fairs that play a major role in providing shortfalls. Such fairs have threefold advantages. Firstly, the organisation benefits from the financial returns. Secondly, the attending public is provided with diverse family entertainment coupled with shopping and dining. Thirdly, needy individuals and families are given a better quality of life .

Jesus said in the Bible, Matthew 25 verses 40 and 45, that any good deed done to one in need is done to God and any good deed withheld from one is withheld from God.

The public is urged to attend these fairs in the spirit of Ubuntu and caring for the needy and downtrodden on humane grounds. One cannot serve God without serving mankind.
