THE WWE empire becoming even bigger will be due to their women superstars. Stephanie McMahon’s exceptional vision has assured this.

Women superstars provided the best bouts at WrestleMania 38 and at WrestleMania 38 Backlash.

Thousands of fans at ringside and millions throughout the world could only marvel at the exceptional skill levels accompanied by entertainment and brutality.

The world of Marvel comics introduced the world to Wonder Woman. However, the WWE has Wonder Women. They have broken the ceiling imposed on them in the man’s world which the WWE had also embraced.

The turning point came in 2015. In a three-hour show on Monday Raw male wrestlers took part in five of the six bouts. The remaining women’s bout lasted 30 seconds.

Stephanie, daughter of WWE founder and owner Vince McMahon, decided this had to change following outrage on social media. And it did despite some resistance. Her husband Triple H backed her Joan of Arc defiance.

Four years later her brave stand was vindicated when women for the first time were in the main fight at WrestleMania 35 – a triple threat match featuring Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey.

Lynch won to become the new Raw and SmackDown women’s champion

They proved that women could be the showstopper at top WWE events. Not only did their thrilling contest capture the minds and hearts of fans, it led to thousands of new fans and planted the seed that young girls and women could become superstars.

Later that year Stephanie kept the heat on with the first women’s bout in Saudi Arabia featuring Lacey Evans and Natalya.

And in February this year the Elimination Chamber in Jeddah featured more women’s matches than ever before. The world was then stunned when in the build-up to the event the WWE unveiled the firstever billboards featuring female superstars in Saudi.

And then Stephanie’s determination to ensure the

WWE women’s division was at an all time high was confirmed in two out of this world contests.

The first was when WWE Raw champion Becky Lynch defended her title against Bianca Belair at Wrestle Mania 38 last month.

The consensus was that their contest was one of the greatest matches, men included, in the history of the WWE.

Lynch lost the title but WWE won big time. Ironically, Lynch went into this bout pushing her new nickname Big Time Becks.

The second was at Wrestle Mania 38 Backlash, held earlier this month, when another women’s champion went out on her shield. The legendary WWE queen Charlotte Flair fought back the tears and the double pain of a broken arm and loss of her Smack Down crown.

Her victor, in a brutal battle of wills, was Ronda Rousey, the Baddest Woman on the Planet.

The demise of two of the best ever champions in just over a month has left the door ajar for the abundance of world class, highly skilled and charismatic women combatants within the ranks of the WWE to step up. However, Belair is seen as the future.

The expected fierce challenge from her rivals will see Belair reach greater heights in her quest to become a true great. One must also keep in mind that her bout against Sasha Banks at last year’s Wrestle Mania was also regarded as one of the best.

Belair and Rousey’s defence of her titles will generate even more interest in women’s wrestling.

Rousey, who is older than Belair, appears to be more vulnerable in holding her crown for a long time compared to the latter.

Flair hinted at this in a cryptic message on social media directed at Rousey.

The former champion used lyrics from ‘Estranged’ by rock band Guns N’ Roses: So what will happen to you baby, guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Some of the main threats to Belair and Rousey will be Lynch, Banks, Bayley, Asuka, Rhea Ripley, Naomi, Shayna Baszler, Liv Morgan, Sonya Deville and Lacey Evans who has just returned to WWE.

This is not taking into account the stunning talent emerging from NXT.

Take a bow Stephanie McMahon.
