Star College set for football festival

MORE than 300 junior and senior primary school pupils from Star College will participate in an international soccer tournament on Saturday.

The tournament will be held at the Westville headquarters of Star College at 20 Kinloch Avenue, Westville North, from 8am.

All Star Colleges from the different provinces and neighbouring countries will participate in matches for the under-11 and under-13 divisions.

The Mozambique group will arrive in Durban with three teams.

Teams from the other provinces are Star College Pretoria, Star Sybrand Park and Star Bridgetown from Cape Town, as well as Nizamye Mayfair and Nizamye Midrand from Gauteng, and Nizamye Port Elizabeth.

Retired professional coach Clive Barker’s referees will officiate in the matches. An added attraction will be the presence of football greats such as Patson Banda, Strini Naicker, Selvanathan Reddy, Faizel Ebrahim and Daya Maistry.

The full day’s programme begins with an opening ceremony and matches starting at 8am, followed by the awards ceremony at 5pm and a concert in the evening.

There will be various food stalls, with Turkish foods among the specialities, and fun and games for children.

Entry is free.
