Too much talking

THE ANC met over the weekend for their first talk shop of the year. Talking is a good thing. But all too often the governing party seems to spend too much time talking about what is already obvious.

By way of example, Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC leader, told us in his closing address that the party was meeting at a time when our country and the world were facing a number of challenges.

He told us our country is experiencing growing levels of unemployment, poverty and inequality, but it is a trend that has been with us for more than two decades.

Then Ramaphosa warned of attempts to undermine our democratic state. But again, this has been evident for a few years and became crystal clear in July last year during the insurrection.

Perhaps the ANC would do better if it spent less time talking about what the problems are and more time on finding solutions.

Based on what transpired during the first Lekgotla of 2022, there is little hope of any meaningful change.
