A step closer to fulfilling childhood dream

DESPITE being a year younger than my fellow matriculants, I was able to bag a 93.14% aggregate and eight distinctions while at Clifton School in the recent IEB matric examinations.

This earned me a place on the list of IEB Outstanding Achievers together with a top 1% finish in four subjects, namely accounting (97%), physical sciences (95%), English and life orientation.

Much of my success, however, stems from my passion for classical music.

From the age of 14, I served as the concert master of the KZN Youth Orchestra and went on to play as a first violinist for the South African National Youth Orchestra merely a year later.

Upon achieving 91% in my ABRSM Grade 8 violin exam at 15, I was selected to perform at the ABRSM Global High Scorer’s Concert where I was able to showcase my musical talent at an international level.

Classical music does wonders as far as one’s creativity is concerned.

Furthermore, having exercised almost every day of my matric year, strength training has played a pivotal role as not only a stress outlet but also a cognitive enhancer.

I will now head for UCT to study towards an MBChB.

Becoming a medical doctor has been my dream from the age of 6 and I hope to contribute towards the field of artificial intelligence and precision medicine in the years to come.

My parents were ecstatic about my achievements. Having come from humble beginnings, they have always valued hard work, dedication and commitment in whatever they do, and they have passed this on to me, my brother Huven and my sister Damika.
