| Staff Reporter

KHALILAH Camacho Ali, the former wife of legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali, is in South Africa for a movie project. During her visit, she met the family of late veteran journalist Farouk Khan.

The late boxing legend and Khan, who died in 2019, had been close friends for many years.

Camacho Ali, who is based in Florida, USA, is in South Africa in her role as an executive producer for a movie on local boxer Gerrie Coetzee by Hartquist Productions.

She was the chief guest at an event co-hosted by the Minara Chamber of Commerce and the Spiritual Chords Foundation in Johannesburg on Saturday. The foundation is a charitable and social welfare organisation with a Muslim ethos.

Asgar Mahomed, the director of the Minara Chamber of Commerce, who hosted Camacho Ali in Johannesburg, said: “We are working on producing a movie on South African boxer Gerrie Coetzee titled Against all Odds.

“It is directed by Koos Roets and produced by Andre Scholtz and executive producers Khalilah Camacho Ali, Menzi Thabede, Mahomed Akbar Khan and myself.”

He said Camacho Ali had requested to meet with Khan’s family.

Camacho Ali was scheduled to return home this week.
