Whatever the election result, it will still be tough

ON THE first of November, South Africans will go to the polls to vote in the local government elections. The hope is that the new group we vote in will do a better job than the last.

While the election results are still being finalised, the petrol price is likely to shoot up by about R1 a litre. Diesel and paraffin are likely to go up by almost R1.50 a litre.

According to the Automobile Association (AA), the November fuel increase is likely to be one of the largest in South African history.

It will push up the price of 95 unleaded petrol to above R19 a litre. With little signs that the international oil price will fall or that the rand will strengthen significantly, R20 a litre for petrol is now within sight before the end of the year.

South Africans don’t have any control over the price of oil. But we do have some control over the strength of the rand.

Unfortunately, our leaders don’t seem to realise this and we are paying the price. This election, use your vote wisely.
