Freedom to address concerns

PRAVIN GOPAUL NAIR (DANNHAUSER)

Q: Tell us about yourself?

A: I am 65 years old and married to Rhana. We have two children. I have been actively involved in local government for 20 years. I enjoy serving the community and addressing the plight of the needy. I also love sport and travelling.

Q: Why did you decide to stand for the elections?

A: I have decided to stand for election in ward 2 after I was prompted by friends and peers. This will give me an opportunity to serve the community

and address daily basic issues, including the provision of water and sanitation, quality roads and a safe community.

Q: Why did you opt not to join an existing political party?

A: I have been associated with political parties in the past. I find that the protocols and sometimes the issues of toeing the line leads to the plight of people not being met. I believe that being an independent candidate will give me more freedom to easily address the concerns of ward 2.

Q: What do you hope to achieve if you are in government?

A: I hope to listen to the concerns of my constituency. The second step would be to establish a committee within the ward for further consultation. Then I will agitate for the constitutional needs of the community to be met effectively, efficiently and timeously. Finally, I will report back to the community about their concerns and how far I am in addressing them.

Q: Give three adjectives that best describe your character and what you stand for?

A: Brave, zealous and helpful.
