Bring power back to people

Q: Tell us about yourself?

A: I am a wife and a mother to a 19-year-old son. I am also an ordained pastor and an associate pastor at Faith Tabernacle since 1993. I am the founder and director of Agora Ministries that serves people with prayer, motivation, encouragement and counselling to, among others, the staff at the Msunduzi and Umgungundlovu municipalities, the departments of home affairs and education, as well as magistrates and supreme courts. I am also involved in social development projects, including feeding schemes and hamper and blanket drives and distribute stationery to indigent pupils.

Q: Why did you decide to stand for the elections?

A: There is a dire need in our community for strong leaders who have the people’s interests at heart. Over the years, we have been promised the world. We need righteous men and women to lead our communities. I am standing for Msunduzi Ward 28.

Q: Why did you opt not to join an existing political party?

A: I am an activist, not a politician. In the words of Musi Maimane: “Change for the better is often brought about by activists not politicians. The latter are more concerned with process, personal gain and prestige, while the former are moved by material and other conditions of their communities.”

We don’t need another politician, we have enough of those. As an independent, I am answerable to the people in my ward and not to any political party.

Q: What do you hope to achieve if you are in government?

A: Bring power back to the people. Allow our voices to be heard. Restore infrastructure. Create youth and women empowerment, address the needs of the poor and the elderly. Work with the police to alleviate crime. Hold the government accountable and equalise the different areas.

Q: Give three adjectives that best describe your character and what you stand for?

A: Influencer, passionate and proactive.
