Tahir feels disrespected

ESHLIN VEDAN eshlin.vedan@inl.co.za

VETERAN spin bowler Imran Tahir has blasted Proteas coach Mark Boucher and Director of Cricket Graeme Smith after he was left out of the Proteas T20 World Cup squad due to play in the World Cup in Oman and the UAE next month.

While the 42-year-old retired from One-Day Internationals after the 2019 World Cup, he remained open to T20 internationals and felt he should have been shown more respect.

“After a few months, I texted Smith and Boucher and nobody replied to me. Since Boucher has become coach he has not contacted me once to tell me what his plans are. It’s really sad man. I served the country for 10 years, I think I deserve a little more respect than these guys thinking I’m worthless,” said Tahir.

Gabriel helps South Africa reach Last 16 of Darts World Cup

Durban born and bred darts star Carl Gabriel helped the South African darts team reach the second round of the 2021 PDC World Cup of Darts following a 5-4 victory over Spain last Friday.

“It’s amazing - I’m lost for words,” said Gabriel. “It didn’t go that well last year but to go through to the next round is massive. The feeling was good and I was a bit more relaxed because I knew what to expect after last year, and Devon (Petersen) spoke to me through the entire game and calmed me when I got a bit anxious,” he added.

AmaZulu frustrated in historic Champions League game

AmaZulu’s historic first ever game in the CAF Champions League did not go according to plan as they were downed 1-0 by Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last Friday. Usuthu simply lack a cutting edge in the final third without the presence of Zambian star Augustine Mulenga.

They will now have to try and overturn the deficit when they travel to Malawi to play against Big Bullets next Saturday.

Ronaldo has dream “second debut” for Manchester United

Making his return to Manchester United after 12 years away, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace to help the Red Devils earn a 4-1 win over Newcastle United last weekend.

Ronaldo is 36-years-old but he showed incredible sharpness and positional awareness to help his side to victory.

Even though he is technically near the end of his career, he is still arguably better than most top players at the peak of their powers. Ronaldo will almost certainly assure United of a regular supply of goals this season but the question is can he help them challenge for the league title?
