My nani treated me like her son

NIEL SINGH Phoenix

MY nani, Leelawathi Sing, was 75 and lived in Flintstone Road in Phoenix. She died on January 4, 2020.

My nani was the most amazing, caring and loving person. She was a hard-working and no-nonsense-taking woman.

She had three daughters and seven grandchildren.

I am the eldest grandchild. Being a man, I was treated as the son she never had.

She always referred to me as her son and not her grandson to anyone that she spoke to.

I was her favourite and nobody could speak a bad word about me in her presence.

I lived with her for 20 years and she raised me to be a kind, loving and humble human being.

She was the one constant in my life as my parents separated when I was quite young.

I wish I could just have another moment with her to tell her that I love her, as I rarely said those words directly to her.

I know she would have been proud of all of us in the family for being strong, respectful, family-oriented and, most importantly, God-fearing people.

She was a woman who would be willing to sacrifice anything for the happiness and well-being of her family. She always cared for others first and put herself last.

Thank you for your sacrifices, care, concern, unconditional love and everything you have done for me.

I know you are in a much better place.

I will be forever grateful and thankful that you were my grandmother.

I love and miss you so much, Nani.
