Anglers can hook it big at The Kingfisher

EXCITING news, it’s The Kingfisher’s 25th birthday and to celebrate we are offering a discount of 25% on all products, excluding bait and items that are already on sale.

The sale starts tomorrow and runs to Sunday, with daily lucky draws and give-aways.

This birthday sale will be at all The Kingfisher branches and we will be open on Sunday until 1pm, so get in early.

The shore-based angling scene has been on fire with the sardine netting action of late.

The North Coast has seen a lot of both edible and inedible fish landed. The warm water is a bit of a problem as it puts the fish in a sulky mood.

The best bet is to fish as early as possible and to focus your fishing effort on the days after the north-east wind has blown.

The rockier areas up north have been the place to fish for the bronze bream, kingies and stumpnose.

Scratching is best done using circle hooks in these areas as the curved in point stops the trace from getting stuck, which translates to a lot less tackle loss.

Also put a knot into your sinker snoot to avoid losing your whole trace if the sinker jams in the rocks. Chokka and prawn are your number one bait.

The central coast has not seen an explosion of action.

This is mainly due to the warmer water. The basin area has seen some grey shark action with a couple of flatfish in between.

Most of the action has been around the Umgeni mouth with a lot of shad coming out and some decent garrick being caught.

The sardines have been the main attraction on the South Coast. This week there was some amazing action in terms of the inedibles, with some giant sharks landed. There have been a lot less sharks lost this year as people are tackling up properly. Well done!

The South Coast has seen a lot of shad action in the early mornings with not much in the line of other fish chasing them.

The garrick that were harassing them have moved into the deeper water.

This did not stop Anil Chatrooghoon as he landed a beautiful garrick of 8kgs this past week at Toti beach. Well done Anil!

The scratching anglers have seen some good catches of bronze bream, stumpies and kingfish.

The chokka baits are producing the best catches if you can get the bait into the right area.

Please remember to leave the areas that you fish in a better condition than when you got there. Take a few moments to pick up some litter and take it to the nearest bin.

Tight lines and screaming reels.
