THALAIVAA (Leader) is an action thriller starring Vijay in the title role, Amala Paul, Sathyaraj, Abhimanyu Singh, Santhanam and Ragini Nandwani in supporting roles.

The story revolves around a dancer who takes over his father's role as a crime boss after his death.

Referred to by fans and media as “Thalapathy” (commander), Vijay is the highest paid actor in Tamil cinema.

According to wikipedia.org, he has acted in 64 films as a lead actor. He has won many awards, including eight Vijay Awards by Star India, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards by the government of Tamil Nadu, and a SIIMA Award.

Vijay has been included several times in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list.

At 10 years old, Vijay's first role was in Vetri (1984).

He continued to perform as a child actor in films until Ithu Engal Neethi.

Vijay then featured as a lead actor for the first time in Naalaiya Theerpu.

In 2008, Vijay was signed as an ambassador for the Indian Premier League cricket team Chennai Super Kings.

In 2009, Coca-Cola India signed him as its brand ambassador in Tamil Nadu and he subsequently featured in advertisements for the company. Vijay's popularity has been recorded by both Google and Twitter as the most-searched-andtweeted actor, several times.

Vijay formed the social welfare organisation, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (Vijay People Organisation), which is responsible for much of his philanthropic work. International Business Times framed him as the “consistent box office performer”.
