Kaunda’s death is a loss to Africa
THE death of Kenneth Kaunda, the founding president of Zambia, marks the end of an epoch.
He established an African presence in the global political arena and he embodied Africa with passion and courage. Those who attempted to humiliate him succeeded only in glorifying him.
He was a man of peace in a world at war. Kaunda was a great African nationalist, but at the same time, he was a leader of international stature.
He gave refuge to our leaders when the Struggle for liberation intensified. Africa is poorer today, poorer not merely by the death of this great
political leader of this era, but because his death leaves a hole in the lives of many. Kaunda will remain a perennial symbol of individual excellence.
Hamba Kahle.
